I agree with...znufrii.

He did a terrible thing and the mistress was probably complicit BUT it sounds like the wife kind of knew it was happening.

I'm not saying that she should continue to pay for everything but if you suddenly are "very wealthy" and can live comfortably compassion is never a bad answer.
