It's amazing to me how much people misread this.

Literally from the start, the clues are there that's she's holding a torch for him. Her boss even asks if she's into one of them, and she has to hesitate before answering.
It's not that Sorkin did anything wrong. It's that some viewers didn't pay attention to subtlety.
