had we supplied them with anti-aircraft weapons Assad would have fallen. That would have perhaps blunted the growth of ISIS or stopped it entirely although our misadventure in Iraq means that train had already left the station.

I know "vetting" the opposition groups would have been very difficult but I don't sense that we tried. And I know that even if we'd been 100% sure of a particular group that a shoulder fired anti-air missile wouldn't have found it's way back into the US and used against a civilian plane. However - I still think they waited too long. The whole foreign policy seems paralyzed whereas Dubya was too independent.
