I think people expected MM:FR to be something and when it wasn't, some of the audience turned on it.

Normally I am bothered by stories that portray every male character as evil or stupid with the exception of the hero who has to be taught the error of his ways but the story was so well done, I didn't mind.
The Revenant is far less a story. It should be called, "Leo Gets Dirty in the Woods". I'm amused that Leo got the Oscar and Tom Hardy, who actually crafting a full and engrossing character was never a serious contender in his category.
For all of Leo's talk about climate change, MM:FR was actually about what greed and hubris could do to us all.
