Good question. And it depends on the state.


I think most states would be able to update their ballots, but it would be close in Oregon -- because we are a vote by mail state.

And there are ways for parties to replace candidates who drop out mid-election. Those procedures are a mish-mash of federal and state election laws, plus party bylaws and procedures. But the end result would be a sort of super-fast mini-convention. Each state would nominate a replacement, then delegates from all states would meet to elect a nominee.
