I think it would depend if the VP candidate was considered a viable POTUS candidate.

If not, I think the go for whoever got more delegates out of Rubio/Cruz (even if one only got 1 more delegate than the other) and maybe leave the VP candidate in place on the ticket?
Would depend on who the parties are, personalities, egos, and a LOT of backroom dealing.
