Honestly, I think any result would be plausible. But it illustrated how many gaps there are in our election laws.
It ultimately comes down to the states. The states control who gets placed on any particular ballot as a candidate, and it's just a patchwork mess of laws that a situation like this becomes a true Constitutional Crisis.
