it's only permanent if the GOP decides it has to make a clean break with the inmates who have taken over their party

at every turn to date, not only haven't they had the stomach to do it, but they've doubled down on them to win off-cycle elections and statewide elections
more likely they'll just try and tell themselves "oh Trump was just a phenomenon. we don't need to really change at heart" and keep on chasing the white voters
