i don't think there were public defenders, as such, until Gideon v. Wainwright made a indigent defense mandatory -- nm* - sweet baboo Mar 2, 12:30 1
- and even then, prosecutors are much more likely than defenders to get nominated for judgeships -- nm - sweet baboo Mar 2, 12:32
