Right. They get in automatically because they won their conference but it was a weak schedule and conference or they were upset winners that

wouldn't be in otherwise so they get a 16 seed. These play-in teams were bubble teams where one would have been left out altogether so they play each other for a chance to dance with everyone else. And since they're a better team than the automatically qualifying teams they get a better seed once they win their way in.
