It sounds like you may not be notified.

For instance, it gives you three days to deny it or it gets installed. We go three days often without watching TV off the DVR (yay Plex!) so in my case I would never see it.
I turned off recommended updates so it shouldn't be an issue but I'd be *pissed* if it broke my DVR.
