You know how you view the Tea Party? That's how non-liberals (not just uberconservatives) view Bernie.

I know a number of people who won't vote or will vote third party in Bernie-Trump. They'd vote Cruz/Kasich over Bernie. They'd vote Hillary over Trump .
Bernie scares them. And their not Tea Party people, but their not liberals either.
Keep in mind, plenty of people think Obama (Obama!) is a socialist (!) so that makes Bernie an ubersocialist. Trump has given Bernie cover. Once his platform is in the mainstream, he's an easy target in the general. Those ideas, while I agree with most of them, are just not viable in the general election today.
