putting John in the future to assume his pre-destined role as leader of the resistance.

It also leaves John Henry (as some have interpreted) to be the 'in our time' soldier that leads the fight against Skynet because he is now imbued with a sense of right and wrong from Ellison and has an interest in saving Savannah who is clealry under threat from...John Henry's brother and whoever sent that Term to kill Savannah.

Gotta hand it to the writers for wrapping it up in this way should S3 not come to pass...it does a good job of tying it to the movies.
