Presuming the show is renewed (and since I think Terminator: Salvation is going to be another Transformers, I think there is a decent shot of this), what they will do is have him dig around in this (particularly) dystopian future for a while. Then, he'll go back to his mother's time and grow old in it. So, I expect him to be in a doomed future where he won't win, but he'll learn from it and get out before the machines win there.
