What we're seeing is an orchestrated program by local Republican legislators to bastardize the laws of the country below the federal level.

Since Republicans can't win an election via one person, one vote, they've gerrymandered their way to state-level political power. In the panic of the impending election, they're enacting lightning strike laws that they defy the will of the population. It's a dangerous precedent whose ramifications we won't know for several years.
