We obviously put different levels of importance on what pissed me off. The very essence of the character was lost, Imo

And I find it difficult to understand how you or anyone could look past that.
It's like saying, well, I wanted a Superman film and got a Mediocreman film, but that's okay because it was pretty to look at.
For me no amount of visual cover can save a bad story, but a great story can almost always save crappy visuals.
