the DaVinci code I have is 330 MB and Eragon is 339 MB
I would expect that just about any mp3 player these days would hold at least 1 GB (certainly 512 MB!) so you wouldn't really need one that takes memory cards, but then having the option to switch to music could be nice for you too while digging.
You wouldn't be able to listen to more than that much in a weekend (or even a week perhaps) anyway.
