Is the stand-alone function of some Android Wear watches all that relevant, and does it carry an extra cost?

Do you need a separate phone contract for the watch? And is there a case where you need the watch to be stand-alone, anyway? Won't it always be connected to your phone if your phone is always on you?
Responses:
When it's not connected to your phone it'll still be a watch.

Looks like the LG Watch Urbane 2 is the only Android Wear that actually has a SIM card and it's not out yet.

My Samsung Gear fit is bluetooth connected to my phone, so nothing additional there. I don't know about the other brands. -- nm
