From the Kotaku article, it seems the online critics were clearly wrong about her. If anything, she was much more "Japan" about sexualization than the haters give her credit for. Indeed, she was quite the opposite of what the haters were saying.
I think, though, she was fired because Nintendo of America is, on the other hand, trying to be much more "America" in relation to the games. They sanitized the games *in spite* of her, not because of her. And while she was much more of a pro-sexualization advocate, NOA is going the other way.
The online criticisms brought this to the attention of the administration who decided she wasn't a good fit... but maybe they can ship her to Japan where the home office would be more comfortable with her?
