similar situation in Ocean City, NJ of all places -- (edited)

it was founded as a Methodist retreat, and it's still a dry town 150 years later. So on the mainland side of each bridge onto the island is a huge liquor store, and everyone knows to stock up.

The worst part is, they don't even allow BYO, so there aren't many decent restaurants in town, but that's as much due to local politics as it is to any lingering religious influence. :(
