In response to "Its kind of like the other Airlines are saying - stop being so good Virgin, you are spotlighting how bad we truly are" by Epiphany

To your IM: Yes and no (it varies and depends. more inside) -- (edited)

A number of Asian full-service long-haul carriers, like Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific, are beloved and lauded (but not cheap). The likes of Emirates, etc, out of the Middle East get good reviews too.

But it's not all rosy on the foreign carriers. The legacy European carriers (Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways, etc) aren't really much different/better than the US carriers on the transatlantic routes. And within Europe? Based on competition from the low-fare types (RyanAir, EasyJet, etc), you can often find planes that are even more cramped than in the US domestically. (Though they often give you food).

And speaking of RyanAir, EasyJet, etc: They basically pioneered the model that Spirit is copying. And there are airlines like that all over the world now.

So it's a mixed bag. Virgin America was unique in general.
