we had extra tickets for the Ladies Finals. We didn't see scalpers for the previous nights so we assumed we'd have to eat the extras. But as we're walking in there was a guy doing the scalper bark, "Buyin'/Sellin'?" Diva and I looked at one another, then turned and said, "Yes".
We showed him the tickets and he said, "Would you take $30 for both?" Diva and I have been burned before so we said, "No, 40". He says, "Ok, I only have 30, take that, keep the tickets and follow me." At which point he takes off, walking at a pretty significant clip. I followed him fast but twice I lost him, only to have him appear 20 foot ahead, checking every once in awhile to make sure I was still coming. We get to the doors (not the gate) and I go through and he's nowhere to be found. I'm pretty confused by this when suddenly he shows up, stuffs another $20 in my hand and I hand him the tickets.
To review: a scalper took a counter offer not like I was killing his kids. The scalper accepted the counter offer gladly. He then let me keep the tickets and what essentially was his deposit at which point I could have ditched him in the crowd. We we met back up he gave me more than the counter offer.
Lesson: He sold those tickets for serious funds. Ladies Finals is apparently where it's at.
