One reason that the Big 3 car companies are in trouble is because 30 or 40 years ago they didn't want to pay higher wages so...

they negotiated generous health and pension benefits with the unions, and now all those benefits are falling due. I'm no fan of unions, but I also think it's rich for car companies not to stick by that deal.
