I think your second paragraph IM is right. The Voice does tours with its singers just like Idol and they do make their performances available on

iTunes. I do think Idol's affiliation with producers and record companies v. the Voice's focus on performers is different. The Voice's mentors are (aside from the coaches) people like Miley Cyrus. Idol's were Clive Davis and Jimmy Iovine. Maybe those guys have more to gain from investing in these people after the show than the performers do (who just move on).
