Weird political thought. In today's age, why does it really matter WHERE a candidate goes?

I've watched a ton of politics coverage and they constantly mention when and where a candidate makes a stop. They also are quick to mention if a candidate skips somewhere to go somewhere else.

Does it really matter? If it does, why? Has anyone said to themselves, 'I'm leaning towards Clinton but then Bernie Sanders came to my town, so I'm voting for him."?

I know that it does actually matter. I just wonder why.

No I haven't been drinking yet.
