He and Trump, as strange as it sounds, are two sides of the same coin. They are tapping into the general disapproval of the current state of government.
And in many ways they are succeeding for some of the same reasons. People like the "Idea" of them and aren't looking too far into the details.
For Trump, people when questioned, just say "I don't know how. He'll just get things done."
For Sanders, kids hear free college, better health care, and a political revolution and they like the idea of it. The actual practicality of getting things enacted don't factor into it.
They just look at Clinton as more of the same, which they don't love and they see Sanders as a change to what is. I think it's that simple.
