i agree with this. i totally understand the problem with the word, but to me it sounds like someone who has very little larger-world life

experience. She probably is really trying to be non-offensive and just doesn't even understand the implications of her choice of words. I imagine a year in a large city, in the entertainment industry, and she'll be leaps and bounds different.
