I think it's pretty sure that she's saying the Bible says it's a sin; I'm a religious person so it's a sin; however I see the humans this actually is so I wish to move past this sin because these people are really decent people. I think her statement is the embodiment of what people of faith need to get to.

That these people are sinning, but that they still show wonderful traits as humans that can strength us all. Hate the sin; love the sinner.

And the negros to black people isn't apt as I don't recall the Bible saying being negro is a sin.
