What's the word when you want to humble-brag but there's nothing humble about it? Oh yeah... "brag".

While I was in my hotel room last week, I Skyped with my dad. That alone is always an accomplishment because 1) Hotel wifi. 2) My dad is like... 86.

He remarked that he was getting these "PowerPlay" things from his friend and he couldn't open them and he needed to pay hundreds of dollars for the software to read his friend's e-mails and it would take a long time to install. ????

So I deciphered it all. No, no one is sending him special e-mails that need special software. Some bozo is sending my dad PowerPoint attachments. My brother told my dad that he'd need to buy PowerPoint to open the attachments. Someone else told my dad that it would take a long time to install PowerPoint on his computer. Just crazy b.s.

Now, granted, this bozo shouldn't be sending PowerPoint attachments to anyone. That's how you get a virus. And my dad says he forwards them on to other people? NO. UH-UH. No more of that. I put an end to that B.S. Stop sending PowerPoint attachments to other people. And tell your bozo friend to stop sending you PowerPoint attachments!

Now, my dad used to be able to open those PowerPoint attachments but now for some reason they're associated with his photo viewer instead of PowerPoint. So, step one is to install the free and easy to install PowerPoint Viewer.

My dad's browser is in English. His Windows is in French. And we did the whole thing in Spanish. I showed him how to share his screen in Skype and I walked him through the process of navigating to Microsoft.com to download PowerPoint Viewer and installing it. But it didn't associate with PPT files so, after I showed him how to download an attachment and open it, I had to show him how to open it by right-clicking and selecting Open With...

Surprisingly, it all went smoothly. He followed instructions very well (a lot of it was "Move to the right... more... more... next one... next one after that" because I didn't know the words "Context Menu" in French or Spanish) and I was very pleased with how patient I was. I must have been in a good mood. And the whole time, I'm firing off profane texts to my brother about why couldn't he just do this when he visits my dad.

Mission accomplished. Screen sharing in Skype is great. Now they have to add "computer control" functionality.
