I'll disagree on the idea you're espousing. 21 Jump Street, Lego Movie...sure, those may not have been 'easy' sells given the creativity needed -- (edited)

but there had been a workable 21 Jump Street in the past. It's a modern-world with dumb but modern cops...
Legos exist in a world of creativity...people accept a lot of leeway in a Lego world...
MIB is a known fantasy world concept....
The largest issue is I can't think of anything outside of like Freddy v Jason and Alien v Predator where there's been franchises cross....
and those were both alien movies or both horror movies and ultimately underwhelming.
This is altering known quantities too much for comfort imo. No matter how creative the explanation ends up.
