No, don't call them weirdos. Tell them different people react differently to the same situation.

My parents divorced when I was 3 and it was nasty. It was odd enough that my dad got custody, but several of my friends came from broken families so it wasn't so bad or weird. On the other hand my sister had friends from less forgiving backgrounds and some made her feel like she'd contaminate their families because she came from parents who divorced.
