That was probably an auto-stick like mine. I don't think Ford uses a CVT.

Could you feel it shifting gears? Mine does that and with the diesel it throws people off that are used to "normal" automatics that aren't very manual-like. With mine there is no doubt it's shifting and you have to get into the rhythm of the transmission or it won't be happy (it's a VW, you do what it tells you).
