I can't imagine they're ever going to come up with a functional fix short of "You all get a Tesla!"

Clean diesel was so revolutionary that in reality, it's just short of cold fusion and the hoverboard. There is no fix that will produce a diesel car with the fuel economy they promised. Short of replacing it with a non-diesel car, there is no fix.
