Obviously they expected more, but are they ultimately happy with what they got?
Responses:
Also, the fact that they need to rethink the whole approach

It made money but they won't be happy with what they got.

It's a complex answer that boils down to yes and no.

it is mind boggling that a movie that makes over 750 million can be remotely considered a flop. -- nm

I wouldn't say flop. Least case scenario isn't the same when we're discussing two of the most popular intellectual properties of all-time.

I would say with toys and collectibles, and with DVD sales, they will be well past 1.2 billion. -- nm

Merchandising is obviously huge, but that's not the point here. Batman and Superman were going to sell toys anyway.

i agree for the most part, but i think that you can't isolate the success or failure of a property like this to the movie itself.....

Not a flop. Just not really a success. -- nm

If they continue onward past WW and Batfleck, I wonder how much the other projects get trimmed in.

And sounds like they were betting the studio on it. -- nm

I would say profit is not enough in the face of opportunity cost. 10 DC films seems like over-committing resources for small return on investment. -- nm

Yes. It made more money than it cost in terms of production and marketing.

I'd say it cost them upwards of $400 million to make and promote.

In terms of straight up figures, there's just no way they spent a billion dollars on that movie.

The odds of it showing in black ink are fairly remote. And I'm not discussing shady bookkeeping when I say that. -- (edited)

I know and I understand. I really do, but it is also about perception. When/if BVS hits a Billion internationally WB will trumpet that. -- nm

Wonder Woman might be the best part of BvS, but BvS has tarnished DC fims that she'll diminished by that. WB's bringing in help becuase they realize
