In terms of straight up figures, there's just no way they spent a billion dollars on that movie.

True, box office does not correlate directly to revenue. The up-side is that BvS was largely front loaded, when studios get most of the money, instead of theaters. Will this movie hurt the studio going forward? Oh hell yes. Does this movie show up in black ink at the end of the day? Yes. Yes it does.
