I wouldn't say flop. Least case scenario isn't the same when we're discussing two of the most popular intellectual properties of all-time.

What confuses most people is the idea that the film costs $400 million and earns a billion. What they forget is that the exhibitor and the investors all get their cut. A dude at Variety did some brutal math last month to show that the film earning a billion would mean a fractional profit. His math was waaaaaay high across the board. $1.2 billion is basically breakeven here.
