weirdly, i think this helps her with the intended target market

she has to know that Cruz will (almost certainly) not get the nomination. so it at least puts her on the GOP presidential stage for another month, basically. side by side with the guy who the kool-aid drinkers view as the most ideologically pure of the candidates

Carly gets to burnish her conservative cred with evangelicals without having to go through the whole magnifying glass scrutiny that Palin did as an actual VP nominee

to what end in the future for her, i don't know. but it seems like a low-risk, high-reward proposition now
