Trump's already spectacularly unpopular, and the more he says, the more he turns off people outside the party

and all the negative stuff that could be said about Clinton has been said. People have their opinion set about Clinton, but as she goes out and campaigns, that softens and it becomes "ah, actually she's not that bad" to the people on the fence, especially compared with the alternative. Republicans couldn't battle Trump, but that was because they were hamstrung by having to appeal to those same awful people, and to keep to certain lines of conservative orthodoxy. Clinton has no such problem, as she can combat his awfulness without compromising her positions.
