I did better on subsequent encounters, but they don't make it easy on newbies.
it reminded me of an experience the first time I went to seattle and they had the most complex detour from a highway I've ever seen. several cars following eachother through a very maze-like path.
I remember thinking that locals probably all knew more direct ways around, and that the detour was a setup for tourists - "sure, come visit, but this is what you'll deal with if you move here!"
