yeah Thor is really dead. Cullen tracked him down as Thor was going to kill his family and shot him. Cullen was shot int he leg as well and he then took Thor 40 miles on horseback to the nearest outpost. And he saw Thor hung for the last time.
But we did find out Thor's origin. He was a Quartermaster for the Union army, a sweet lovable guy who was captured and sent to Andersonville where it was really bad and broke him there...
