Davos didn't have a choice by that point.
I spent about 10 minutes thinking "What's your plan, Jon Snow? WHAT'S YOUR PLAN?!" Even if he didn't go charging in because of Rickon his big plan was still to just meet a superior force face to face. At the very least he needed to task a reserve group with flanking the enemy.
