Everything you say in your IM is true. That doesn't make it any more appealing for another candidate to step into at this point in the game. Because

while the money might start to flow, they are already late to the game. And on top of the existing shit show they would inherit, they would add in the underlying lack of legitimacy of their nomination. There's a reason every possible stand in has said they want no part of it. Even one of the leaders of the anti-trump movement (Romney) has said no way. It's crash and burn time and they'd rather he be the guy that crashes than them.
