Communication requires both a speaker and a listener. It is quite possible for a speaker to communicate something to a listener that the speaker

doesn't intend, simply because of what the listener chooses to hear.

If what you say sounds a lot like what a sexist would say, then some listeners are going to interpret what you say as sexist. And that is partly on you for using language favored by sexists.

Read that as a generic "you", please.
