I think you've got to be aware of it. Someone who likes me is going to have a very different view of what I say than someone who doesn't.

And maybe I'm not responsible for how someone else interprets what I say, but if there's a misunderstanding that I want to clear up, it's my responsibility to do so because I'm the one who wants to clear it up.
