I understand your point. My counter is that as a hitter, if a pitcher is pitching you inside

it is very difficult to hit it the other way.
You are taught to hit the ball where it is pitched.
You want more exciting baseball? get rid of the massive overshifts. You can still have substanstial shifts, but limit them somewhat.
SS and 3B have to stay on that side of 2B, and 1B and 2B have to stay on that side of 2B until the ball is pitched and or put in play.
Responses:
Catchers used to leave their position and go into the field until they changed the rule about "dropped" third strikes requiring the put-out.

I'm with you on this, groin. Back in the day, pitchers got too good and scoring was down. the game was boring...

Sure, but he's playing to his defensive strength. It's really no different than any other sport. You're trying to get the offense to do what you

you are dealing with a sport which is trying to reduce time, and make the game more marketable.

In my mind it's just part of the evolution of the game and makes it no less exciting.

if you look at the stats, it is not really going away. Players are striking out more. batting averages are down.

Meh, if it's inside, take the ball...or learn to keep your hands inside the swing.
