I'm with you on this, groin. Back in the day, pitchers got too good and scoring was down. the game was boring...

so they lowered the pitching mound (actually - didn't lower it as much as set a regulation for how high it could be - which forced a lot of teams to lower theirs) and they leveled the playing field a bit.

I don't see anything wrong with ending the shift with a rule.
