sports gamers, do you ever do this? I got a used copy, but new to me, of NBA 2K9 and I am kind of cheating

I've only done one of the six tutorials and it looks horribly complicated. I just wanted to play, so I gave the XBox the Clippers and I took the 80s East All-Stars. The Clippers can't defend in the paint against Patrick Ewing and Kevin McHale, and they really can't do anything about Larry Bird and Julius Erving from where ever they choose.

I know I should finish the tutorials before I play, but I just wanted to play and win so I set up a lop-sided matchup (which ends up being closer than reality would be because I'm not that good yet). Is that cheating or just regular videogaming?
