like user error.
This is a couple things combined: "control anxiety" where people distrust letting computers make decisions and over-value mistakes made by computers/undervalue mistakes made by humans. And "it's new! What is this strange magic! OH! Someone was hurt, blame the magic!"
Trust me when I say I'll accept that AutoPilot is at fault when it is shown to be the cause of an issue.
There are plenty of vehicles that currently operate with lane assist and cruise control. See here: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2485278,00.asp
But the Tesla gets singled out because the car is new in other ways, so it gets extra scrutiny.
