technical answer...Long and Short Codes.

I think it's a "Short" Code which a company can buy which essentially pushes message traffic ahead of others. I can't remember if it's Short or Long Codes which purchase preference but I was pretty surprised to hear something like this. I learned this last year when an app I was working on considered purchasing a code. It's why sometimes a text takes mins or hours.
It sounds like the telephone companies were able to accomplish what the cable/broadband companies only dream of.
