I mean more in the context of the stupid 'crazy' bullshit he'd do on set.

Ledger was brilliantly menacing / crazy / calculating on-camera but by most accounts, light and cheerful off-camera.
The stories with Leto giving co-stars gifts like a love letter in a black box and a live rat are just creepy. It's a method actor being ridiculous that won't help sell the movie...him being awesome on screen will.
